Cottage Pie for Two

A comforting, high-protein twist on a classic cottage pie. Using SAVR Creamy Tomato creates a rich, creamy filling while adding an extra 20g of protein per serving.

Method

  1. Prepare the mash
    • Boil the potatoes in salted water for 15–20 minutes until fork tender.
    • Drain well and mash with the milk and butter (if using). Season to taste and set aside.
  2. Cook the filling
    • Heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.
    • Sauté the onion and carrot for 4–5 minutes until softened.
    • Add the garlic and cook for another minute.
    • Add the lean mince and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.
    • Stir in the tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce and thyme.
  3. Add the SAVR
    • Pour in the beef stock and bring to a gentle simmer.
    • Gradually whisk in the 2 scoops of SAVR until fully incorporated.
    • Simmer for 3–5 minutes until the sauce is thick, creamy and smooth.
    • Stir through the peas and season to taste.
  4. Assemble
    • Spoon the mince mixture into a baking dish.
    • Spread the mashed potato evenly over the top.
    • Rough up the surface with a fork for a crisp finish.
  5. Bake
    • Bake at 200°C for 20–25 minutes until golden on top and bubbling around the edges.
    • For extra colour, grill for the final 2–3 minutes.

Serve with steamed green beans, broccoli, or a simple side salad for a balanced, satisfying meal.
